Cato at Thirty

2007 marks the Cato Institute’s 30th anniversary. As with any anniversary commemoration, but especially an observance of three decades, it’s a special opportunity to look back at accomplishments and challenges. As the photographs alongside this text illustrate, as do the Annual Reports linked below, what has occurred since our founding in 1977 has been remarkable -- for Cato, for our country, and for the world.

The essence of our nation, and at the heart Cato’s work, is a respect for the dignity of the individual. All of Cato’s efforts for the past 30 years are predicated on how human well-being and dignity are enhanced by a commitment to individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and peace. They will remain the foundation of the work we energetically undertake in the years and decades ahead.

Toward Liberty: The Idea That Is Changing the World Toward Liberty: The Idea That Is Changing the World

A special collection of the best articles published by Cato over the past several decades. These articles span a variety of important issues, including the fall of communism and apartheid, globalization, school choice, Social Security privatization, technology and the new economy, and personal freedom. They show the power of ideas to change the world around us -- especially the idea of liberty. More and more countries around the world are opting for free trade and free markets, and the Cato Institute has played an important part in popularizing those policies to a worldwide audience.

Support

Any chance to acknowledge and thank our supporters is welcome, and this anniversary certainly provides us with an opportune reason. Our work could not be undertaken without the generosity and shared commitment of some 15,000 individual Sponsors, along with numerous foundations, companies, and other organizations. We are deeply grateful. And, if you are not already a Sponsor, we invite you to join us and become a part of the Cato community.
